The UA Office of Early Academic Outreach works in the community to increase the number of ethnic minority, low-income and first-generation college-bound students. One program is Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement, or MESA, where students participate in hands-on activities and team competitions. Recently, UA President Eugene G. The Early Academic outreach program was established in 1976 by the University of California to increase the number of students who have the opportunity to achieve a postsecondary education. Through a series of educational partnerships between school districts, school sites, and community organizations, EAOP designs, develops, and implements academic enrichment strategies to increase the college going rates of the schools it serves.
UC Berkeley Latinx/Xicanx* students established the RAZA Recruitment and Retention Center to increase the number of Latinx/Xicanx students in institutions of higher education and provide academic and social support networks in order to encourage academic achievement among students. "Comienza Con Un Sueño" is a parent and student resources event and campus tour that took place March 12th, 2016 @ UC San Diego. It was hosted by the EAOP or Early Academic Outreach Program with many participating sponsors, groups and organizations. The UCSB EAOP 2015 Education, Leadership, Careers Conference was hosted on Saturday, Feb 7, 2015 at UCSB and brought together 280 mostly high school juniors from 7 high schools, located in 5 School Districts, spread across 3 counties (Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Kern). The HS students engaged 22 professional speakers from various careers and educational paths. The goal, to inspire and motivate the high schools students to continue preparing for college. Professionals spoke about their education and career paths during three small group mini-mentoring sessions in an effort to teach them how Education, Leadership, and Careers are interrelated and influence career choices and lifestyle opportunities.
